Navigating the Aisle: A Blerona’s Journey In Finding The Perfect Wedding Dress

After Blerona and Sammy got engaged at the end of 2021, we asked Blerona what it has been like trying to find the perfect dress, given that she is a short stature person with Dwarfism.

In a world where fashion is catered to the average height, the journey of little people finding clothing and shoes that fit can be a mountainous challenge. Nowhere is this more evident than in the pursuit of the dream wedding dress, where the quest for comfort and confidence becomes paramount. In this blog, we delve into Blerona’s journey with this very issue. From the initial nerves of stepping into the boutique to the triumph of discovering the dress that embodies her vision perfectly, this is a tale of redefining beauty standards, one stitch at a time.

Blerona tells all…

“Living in an average height world can be challenging for little people, especially when it comes to finding clothes that fit properly. It’s unfortunate that society makes it hard for little people by not providing enough options that cater to their body type. Imagine having to alter your clothes, use stools, or grabbers just to reach something. It can be difficult to feel like you belong in a world that wasn’t made for you.

When it comes to finding the perfect wedding dress, it was important to me to choose a dress that makes me feel comfortable and confident in my skin on my special day. When finding my wedding dress, the boutique I chose had such wonderful girls who helped me find my dream dress. Going into it, I was  nervous and didn’t know what to expect. However, the girls there helped me find exactly what I was looking for.

It’s important to remember that every bride has a unique vision of what they want their wedding dress to look like. Although it can be challenging for little people to find a dress that fits their body type, there are ways to approach this challenge and find a dress that makes them feel confident and beautiful on their special day.

Some of the challenges when shopping for my wedding dress were alterations and having a clear vision in my head. I had to basically envision myself with all the alterations that needed to be done. It was difficult to find a dress that fit well around my torso area because most dresses were not tight in that area. As well as if a bride wanted long sleeves those would be an extra alteration to shorten them. But every girl deserves to have the best experience when finding their wedding dress.”

Chamiah knew exactly this when she decided to design an entire collection of bridal and occasionwear for London Fashion Week in 2022. Chamiah's visionary approach is not just about fashion; it's a celebration of uniqueness and a commitment to redefine bridal beauty standards.

Chamiah's 2022 collection showcased more than just stunning gowns—it was a revelation. Models, for the first time, experienced the profound emotion of donning bridalwear designed with their height and body types in mind. The runway became a symbol of empowerment, resonating with both the models and the audience.

What made Chamiah's collection truly groundbreaking were the thoughtful adaptive features incorporated into each piece. From shirred back panels ensuring comfort and easy dressing, to laced-up backs providing accessibility throughout the day, every detail was a testament to the commitment to inclusivity. Adjustable straps, and wrap designs facilitated independent dressing, and fabrics that were not only luxurious but also soft, breathable, and comfortable, setting a new standard in bridal fashion.

In this momentous occasion at London Fashion Week, the runway transformed into a platform of not just style but of breaking barriers and embracing diversity. Chamiah's collection stands as a testament to the belief that every bride, regardless of height, deserves to have a dress that not only fits but celebrates their individuality. The journey of finding the perfect wedding dress for little people is evolving, thanks to designers like Chamiah, who are stitching stories of inclusivity, one breathtaking gown at a time.
